Ft. McMurray

Helping Ft. McMurray

Here at Thornhill Elementary School we care about others and want to help. Right now, it is Ft. McMurray, Alberta who is in need of lots of help. As many of you are aware, over 80,000 people had to be evacuated from the Ft. McMurray area last week due to an overwhelming forest fire. Many have given help already and there are those still who may be wondering how they can help.

Well here at Thornhill Elementary School, we are graciously taking donations of gift cards or anything else you may want to give. Donations will be accepted until May 19, 2016.

Spring is here

Spring is Here

Just a reminder to all parents and guardians, that yes Spring is here, but please also remember that the mornings are still quite chilly some days and that your children should still be dressing appropriately for the weather. Dress your child(ren) in layers, so that if the weather does become warmer later in the day, they have the option of removing a layer or two.

spring is here and bees too

Also please remind your children that with spring comes the bees and the wasps and that they can be easily agitated and are more likely to sting. Please remind them to be mindful and if your child has allergies, please ensure that we here at the school are aware of this and that the necessary steps are in place in case your child gets stung. We have had a few students getting stung already out in the fields.

Pink Shirt Day – Anti Bullying

We wore PINK on Anti Bullying DAY – Wednesday February 24th, 2016

IMG_1321

At Thornhill Elementary we recognized Anti-Bullying Day by wearing pink to promote inclusion and diversity.

February 24, 2016 we encouraged everyone to wear something pink. Several of the students and the staff showed that we are all working together to prevent bullying in our schools, in our communities and online.

Pink Shirt Day comes from Nova Scotia high school students, who decided to take a stand against bullying in their own school.

Visit the website at http://www.erasebullying.ca/ for a variety of resources for parents and students.
